Runners come to run the Superior Trail Races each year for one reason – to experience fantastic trail-running on one of the greatest hiking trails in the ANYWHERE. The Superior Hiking Trail is a 277-mile footpath that largely follows the rocky ridgeline above Lake Superior on Minnesota’s North Shore from Duluth to the Canadian border. The Superior Hiking Trail Association builds, maintains, and manages the trail with the help of hundreds of volunteers. Many of our runners are SHTA members, donating their time and money each year to help maintain and advocate for this fantastic resource. Please help by joining, donating or volunteering. Thanks!
There is no doubt, Minnesota is blessed to have many great independently owned running stores – TC Running Company is one of them but the difference at TC Running Company is their unparraled interest and support of local trail and ultra-running. Thank you TC Running Company for your ongoing support!
TC Running Company endeavors to meet the needs of a variety of runners including local middle and high school athletes competing in cross country and track & field, parents of student athletes, college runners, post-collegiate, and competitive runners. We’re also the choice of several local running groups such as Lifetime Fitness, ALARC, MDRA, and The Marsh (which include beginners and walkers). Over the years, TC Running has kept its focus honed and effective. And even though we’ve grown a little since we first opened shop, we still have the same product focus, the same great employees, and the great discounts we’ve been known for in the past. Our efforts have always been locally based, and we will stay true to those roots as part of our commitment to quality service and helpful customer relationships. We invite you to stop in today and experience the kind of personal attention and sound running advice that only TC Running can provide. We look forward to meeting you!

The Upper Midwest Trail Runners is an organization for anyone who likes to run off road. Some of us are serious ultra runners. Others are recreational runners who seldom if ever enter a race. Our members like to run on dirt, grass, gravel, rocks, mud, snow—really, any trail that isn’t paved. We want to encourage more people to run trails and have fun before, during, and after runs. Our members support and conduct races and other running activities. Because we appreciate running on trails, we want to protect and support local trails and parks.
Our organization also promotes a number of trail race series offering some friendly competition throughout the running season. Members who sign up for the series can win annual prizes for overall or age-group
The Gnarly Bandit Ultra Series is a series of 100 Km or 100 mile ultra trail races throughout the upper midwest with a pot of gold at the end for those brave enough to make the challenge. Are you tough enough?
The Gnarly is designed to compete against yourself — officially finish each event in the calendar, and you will receive recognition from the Old Gnarly himself at the UMTR Annual Awards Fest (though he has never been spotted). This years races include Zumbro, Kettle, Black Hills, Superior and Wild Duluth.
Wilderness Athlete , focusing on the outdoor athlete, has stepped up big-time to provide a stash of cash — $600 — that will be split among the group finishing the series. Two people finish, each will receive $300, and so on. These winners will be given other WA merchandise to sponsor their trail efforts going forward, too, as official Wilderness Athlete Trail Runners.
Wilderness Athlete’s “Fuel the Adventure” performance products are unique in the category like their Blast Energy Gels. With WA, you’re gonna make way and get your finish no matter how hard the Gnarly Bandit tries to ambush you on those gnarly trails.
SCOTT, already a major player in several sports has tested the waters with a great line of trail running shoes and has had great results. Checkout SCOTT shoes and look for their booth at our events.

If you see Joel on the trails or at an aid station, please be sure to say hi. If you ever need more support or guidance than what can be offered at an aid-station, feel free to contact Joel at St. Croix Law!

Founded in 1966 by Alfred Peet (1920–2007) in Berkeley, California as “Peet’s Coffee, Tea & Spices”, Peet’s is especially known for its strong, dark roasted coffee, including its Major Dickason blend. Hands down, some of the finest coffee anywhere!
